Honda CR500 Complete 5-Speed Transmission

MotoGears manufactures a complete 5-speed replacement transmission for the legendary Honda CR500.

Designed for strength, durability and precise shifting, our transmission components are manufactured from high-quality case-hardened steel and professionally heat-treated for reliable performance under demanding riding and racing conditions.

The complete transmission includes:

  • Mainshaft and Countershaft assembly with all gears

  • Required washers and snap rings

Shift forks are sold separately.

Technical Compatibility

The MotoGears complete transmission is manufactured according to the 1988–2001 Honda CR500 specification and is a direct replacement for these models.

The complete transmission can also be installed in earlier Honda CR500 models (1984–1987) with additional modifications and replacement of related components.

For installation in 1984–1987 models, please contact us before ordering. We will help you confirm compatibility and identify the required modifications.

Hello, in the late 80s when both the KX500 and CR500 were in production Honda’s racing arm, HRC produced Enduro kits for Honda CR-250s and CR-500s. For the CR500 they offered a Wide ratio kit with Wider3,forth and 5th gears with higher ratios. They increased top speed considerably. They were used by quite a Few desert racers. When they ended production the remaining gears SOARED. With prices 4 or times original price. As there has been an explosion of interest in the old 500s. Also the availability of both Maico 500 and 680 motors and bike in limited production as well as Canada’s BRC producing several hundred convers for both KTM,and 300s and Yamaha’s Evergreen YZ-250s. They’ve recently released a complete bottom end with counterbalancer, crank, rod just lacking gears and ignition. Cylinders and heads are more available. I believe the 5th gears higher ratios in the HRC kit was .733. If your company would consider manufacturing it as a custom order item I’m very interested in definitely having a wide ratio tranny if I build the BRC/Honda CR500 along with an electric starter conversion. ?? My old CR500 RK is getting pretty old though I might rebuild it completely as a spare. Also if you do produce them you would most probably sell quite a few of them here in the USA.
